What is Die Casting?
Die casting is a manufacturing process that fabricates metal parts utilizing molds, known as dies. It entails injecting molten metal into a mold cavity under high pressure to form the desired metal components.
The mold comprises two halves, typically crafted from heat-resistant steel grades, creating a cavity into which the liquid metal is injected at pressures ranging from 1,000 to 20,000 psi. Die casting encompasses two primary methods: hot chamber and cold chamber die casting processes.
Both techniques are adept at producing premium die-cast parts, differing slightly in their casting approach. The choice between the two hinges primarily on the metal type and the intended part.

Hot Chamber and Cold Chamber Die Casting
The hot chamber die casting process, also known as hot casting, entails fully immersing the injection mechanism's cylinder chamber into a molten metal bath before initiating casting.
Utilizing a metal feed system, molten metal is injected into the die cavity to shape the desired form. Ideal for metals with low melting points or those that remain stable when heated, such as zinc, lead, and magnesium alloys, this method offers heightened production rates compared to the cold chamber process.
In contrast, the cold chamber die casting process eliminates the need to immerse the injection mechanism in the molten metal bath. Instead, the metal is housed in a holding pot and heated in a furnace to the requisite temperature.
Subsequently, the molten metal is poured from the pot into the die casting machine to fashion die-cast parts. This method is preferred for materials with higher melting points, such as aluminum and copper.
